~JL
Set Label LengthPreview: not drawnMakes the printer measure the label in front of it and adopt that length.
Syntax
~JLThis command takes no parameters.
How it works
~JL feeds one label, measures it and sets the label length from what it found. It is the lighter cousin of ~JC: it settles how long a label is without redoing the whole sensor calibration.
It is most useful on continuous media, where there is no gap to find and the printer has no other way to know where to stop — and after a media change where the new roll is the same kind of stock as the old one, just a different size.
The length it arrives at is the same setting ^LL writes. The difference is where the number comes from: ~JL measures it, ^LL is told it.

How the preview on this site handles it
Not drawn. ~JL is an instruction to feed and measure a physical label, and the preview is given its label size directly. Being a tilde command it sits outside ^XA…^XZ, so the preview skips it and draws the format that follows.
Common mistakes
- Using it instead of a full calibration after a media change. If the gap or liner changed too, ~JC is the command you want.
- Sending it with the wrong media loaded. It will happily adopt the wrong length and every label after it will be wrong.
- Following it with an ^LL that disagrees. The last one to arrive wins, which makes for a confusing pair.
